IDSC in Brief:

IDSC is one of the distinguished think tanks in Egypt, which is primarily tasked with supporting decision-makers over issues of relevance to economic, social and political reform. The IDSC was established in 1985 by virtue of decree No 41/1985, issued by the Minister of the Council of Ministers' Affairs. IDSC's endeavors, since its inception, have been focused on priority issues, giving a momentum to the reform march, which has an effect on the course of development.

   IDSC, since its establishment, have sought to upgrade the Egyptian society starting with informational infrastructure upgrading, moving across through decision support in development relevant issues in the economic, political and social spheres. The center, IDSC, has largely contributed to crystallization of outlooks and concepts, which had their great effect on external and internal policies of the Egyptian government.

Strategic Objectives:

   The aim of the IDSC, since its inception, has been to be a fully-fledged think tank to the Egyptian Cabinet in decision support area over economic, social and political development issues. Also, the center has been keen to consolidate relations with ministries and different government bodies and to give people access to information and data within a framework of disclosure and impartiality, laying a special emphasis on the e-Provision and on opening communication channels with the masses to measure society's trends towards national issues.

Work Mechanisms and Orientations of IDSC's Units

The holistic and specialized researches in certain topics are some of the instruments, whereby the IDSC rely upon to achieve its goals and to display its ideas and activities with regard to community-based issues. To demonstrate its ideology and opinions as well its activities, the IDSC publishes a series of books and working papers as well as issuing periodicals and opinion polls. In addition, it holds seminars, conferences, and training programs.

   IDSC adopts a number of policies and work mechanisms to upgrade efficiency and effectiveness of its various research endeavors. Also, it studies other similar centers' experiences and practices and keeps abreast of the latest developments at both the local and international arena. Furthermore, it continually works towards achieving human resources development, raising its staff's career satisfaction and working on providing a stable work environment. Add to this, it fosters relations with experts and specialists to ensure that research works are conducted on scientific grounds.

   IDSC is keen to deliver exhaustive outputs with regard to presentation and analysis. These outputs are defined by their possibility of application observing the surrounding societal context and probably affecting it. In addition, the IDSC, abiding by a set of axes, seeks to achieve its goals. Such axes include decision support in developmental, economic, social and political issues; information analysis and provision; and societal communication as well as partnership with regional and international institutions.
