The Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) held its first meeting for the founders of the Arab Network for Research and Public Opinion Polls (ANRPOP) on Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th, July 2010 at IDSC’s headquarters. The two-day meeting comprised representatives from a number of Arab public opinion polling center, in addition to a group of experts, researchers and practitioners in the polling field.
In November 2009, IDSC conducted its second annual conference on public opinion where the establishment of the ANRPOP was announced in the closing ceremony. The aim of the network was to advance public opinion polls in the Arab world, as it’s considered a growing industry and a noble message that contributes to development, democracy and popular participation in decision making and policy formulation. Following the end of the conference, several steps have been taken towards establishing this network; including this meeting. This first meeting brings together the founders of the network, including representatives from research centers that participated in November’s conference. During this meeting, visions and opportunities for the network was discussed, as well as the main and sub objectives of the network and membership conditions and ways of guaranteeing its independence. Finally, the meeting defined the most important roles and functions of the network, including the establishment and provision of databases for all Arab research centers and institutes, human skills development in the field of public opinion polls, especially youth and preparing the code of ethics which all members must abide.
